There are more hot horror movies than you might imagine, even though the words “sexy” and “horror” don’t go together as naturally as fish and chips. In reality, sex and terror have long been lovers on the big screen. Horror films have a history of exploiting sexuality and sexual experience to denote which characters are deserving of salvation and which characters are deserving victims of whatever supernatural entity or vengeful slasher may be at large.
It’s one of the reasons the phrase “final girl” was coined; in virtually every case, the “final girl” declines the sex, drugs, and booze that her companions consume, and it’s part of what ultimately saves her in the end credits.
But in recent decades, lots of movies have spun the idea of the “final girl” on its head, including the tongue-in-cheek Scream franchise and the porn-themed “X.” And other movies, like “Cam” and “It Follows,” have embraced sex and sensuality wholeheartedly as key pieces of their plot — no moralising required.
