Cop Watches A Father's 2-Year-Old Daughter During Court, He Returns And His Heart Melts

The connection between a father and a daughter is one of the strongest bonds a human can experience. This bond is so powerful that when a father sees another father in need, he is ready to help him out of understanding. This was the situation for two men in Orem, Utah.

Jose Moncayo went to the Utah County courthouse to handle a traffic ticket he had previously received. He had looked for a babysitter for his two-year-old daughter, Abi, but hadn’t been able to find one. With no other options, he brought Abi with him to the courthouse. The two waited together outside the courtroom. When it was time for Jose to go inside, he realized he needed help.

Everything was fine as Jose waited for his turn to go into the courtroom. Abi explored the hall as much as she could while they waited. She could not manage to sit still next to her father, but instead wandered around the hallway and entryway.

The entire building became her play area.When it was finally time for Jose to appear before the court, he found himself in a sticky situation. He wasn’t allowed to bring Abi into the courtroom with him. Jose had no clue what to do. He couldn’t leave his daughter all alone, but he hadn’t come with anyone else who could watch her. Then a hero stepped in.

Officer Kevin Norris of the Orem Police Department saved the day. He offered to babysit Abi while Jose was in court. Officer Norris had been watching the father and daughter while he waited in the hall to give his own testimony. When he saw the situation Jose was in, he was only too happy to help.

“I’ve got kids myself,” Officer Norris explained to 2News. “I know what it is to have rambunctious kids, and it’s hard to take them anywhere.”

The police officer showcased his great parenting skills by taking excellent care of Abi while Jose was occupied. He held her hand as he escorted her around the building. He made sure she drank enough water, and they even got treats from other deputies in the courthouse. What could have been a crisis ended up being a great day for Abi.

Eventually the young girl began to run low on energy, so Officer Norris sat down and showed her some cartoons on his phone. He pulled Abi onto his lap, where she leaned her head against him. Clearly the officer had gained this little girl’s trust.

When Jose came out, he found his daughter asleep in the officer’s arms. This is a brilliant example of how much police officers care about the people around them.

“We’re not just officers who are out there to arrest people,” Officer Norris shared. “We’re out there to make our community a better place.”

This man certainly made a difference by stepping up and helping a fellow father in need. It is heartwarming to see so much compassion alive in a community.
