Sadly, this isn’t always the case. Beatrice Lovane, 22, was living with an undiagnosed liver condition and was taking co-codamol tablets to control her stomach pain.
When she fell ill after taking some of the medication, her mother, Maria Lovane called an ambulance and was horrified by their response.
The call was made in March 2017, and the ambulance that responded was from North West Ambulance Service in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. When the paramedics arrived, Beatrice was lying on the floor of a filthy hallway covered in her own vomit and bodily fluids.
The paramedics told Maria that Beatrice was just trying to get attention! Beatrice’s condition deteriorated, and her eyes started rolling. That is when one of the paramedics told Beatrice to “Stop being funny.” Maria was trying to get help for her daughter but instead was humiliated.
When Maria asked for a wheelchair, the paramedics refused! Instead, they pulled Beatrice down the stairs. Corner Lisa Hashmi concluded the paramedics failed to provide basic care and as a result, Beatrice lost her life.
Footage from the body cameras the police were wearing corroborated the coroner’s findings.
Beatrice died two hours after the paramedics were called. Hashmi stated that this kind of care is not the norm and people should not be hesitant to call for help. Share away, people.
