Rebel Wilson will be back in her element soon enough — hosting the 2022 BAFTAs.
The comedian, 41, shared the news on social media Friday, and bantered about what viewers can expect when she hosts the British awards show.
She joked that she may not be as funny anymore since she lost weight and that she’ll be hanging out with former James Bond himself, Daniel Craig.
“I am very honoured to be hosting the EE British Academy Film Awards in March, where Covid will no longer exist because it will clearly have been canceled by then. It’s going to be so much fun!” she wrote.
“I don’t wanna put any pressure on this — I know I’m not going to be funny because I am no longer fat,” the “Pitch Perfect” star added. “And besides, I’m not going to ‘sweat-it’ with nerves because I have a peculiar medical condition where I can’t sweat…or cause offense to people because of my adorable Australian accent.”
Wilson continued, “So basically I’ll just be there to hang out with Dame Judi Dench and together we’ll both try and bond with Daniel Craig. And yes, I do mean ‘bond’😉.”
“This show will be an anniversary celebration of some important British film franchises such as ‘HARRY POTTER’ and not such as ‘CATS.’ Everybody’s going to love it, I’m sure! See you guys March 13th!” she concluded.
The BAFTAs, celebrating the year’s best in British and international film, will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC’s iPlayer on March 13 from London’s Royal Albert Hall. Prince William is president of the association, taking over the role in 2010 from Sir Richard Attenborough.
BAFTA executive Amanda Berry said in a statement, “We are delighted to welcome Rebel Wilson as this year’s host of the EE British Academy Film Awards. Rebel has stolen the show at several previous Film Awards, and we’re hugely excited to see her bring her fantastic charisma and humor to the whole show as we celebrate the very best in film.”
Wilson previously made appearances at the 2016 and 2020 BAFTAs. She stole the show both times with her deprecating humor.
She poked fun in 2016 about the attractiveness of Idris Elba and the racism controversy surrounding the Oscars at the time. 2020 saw the Australian actress joking about COVID-19 masks and her her disastrous film “Cats.”
